M. Marie Ervin, 87, of Jackson died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at her daughter's home in Jackson.

She was born Dec. 14, 1921, near Parma, Mo., daughter of Sayle and Oma Triplett Moore. She and H. Wilburn Ervin were married Nov. 12, 1938, in Vanduser, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1963.

Marie was a member of West Side Church of God, where she taught Sunday school more than 20 years. She worked at Ralph Edwards Sportswear four years and for a local silversmith four years. She was co-owner of Nell and Marie's Sewing, Alterations and Gift Shop, and later worked for and retired from Hecht's clothing store, where she was a seamstress 20 years.

Marie could say her ABCs backwards faster than most people could say them forward. She loved to go antiquing and yard saling. Marie loved to travel and had been to Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and many other states.

Many times I heard her say, "I have been as far north, south, and east as you can go in the United States." Marie loved to collect several different kinds of dishes and thimbles. Her favorite pastime was working in her yard and flowers.
