KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Marguerite Samantha Hoffmeier, 88, of Kansas City passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services in Kansas City from heart failure. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Country Club United Methodist Church, 57th and Wornall streets. Funeral services will be at 2:30. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Marguerite Samantha Hoffmeier, 88, of Kansas City passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services in Kansas City from heart failure.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Country Club United Methodist Church, 57th and Wornall streets. Funeral services will be at 2:30. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.

Mrs. Hoffmeier was born May 4, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of John Marvin McLain and Sadie Wilhite. She and Samuel Leroy Hoffmeier were married Jan. 15, 1949. Devoted to her family, she worked as a bookkeeper for Century Electric in St. Louis and the YMCA in Kansas City. She was a devoted member and secretary of the Country Club United Methodist Church for 46 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her sisters Lillian McLain, Eleanor Chitty, Dorothy Pierce; and brother, Richard McLain.

Marguerite is survived by her sister, Geneva Sitze of Cape Girardeau, and nieces Mary Frances Sitze and Marilyn Jane Chitty. She is survived by two daughters, Linda and Steve Maniscalco, Debbie and Paul Joyce; and a son, Samuel John and Chrissa Hoffmeier.

She was known affectionately as "Meme" by six grandchildren, Jennifer Regan, Meghan Moss, Samantha Hunter, Sarah Hoffmeier, Maxwell Hoffmeier and Samuel Hoffmeier.

McGilley State Line Chapel in Kansas City, Mo., is in charge of the arrangements.
