Margie Williams

Margie Helen Cannon Williams peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven, surrounded by family, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

She was born to loving parents Clarence and Lula Wolsey Cannon in Morley, Missouri, 100 years ago, on Jan. 30, 1923, and was preceded in death by all her extended family, including her beloved siblings — Clarence Cannon, Julia Mae Nations, Norval Cannon, Neva Stone, Paul Cannon, Jewel Harris Wilhoit and Marie Cope.

Margie married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Roy Albert "Dick" Williams of Morley in 1941. Together, they created a family with children — Gary Joe Williams, Olivia Diane (Williams) Maxwell and Jeffrey Wayne Williams — while maintaining close relationships/familial bonds with the large, extended Cannon and Williams families of siblings and their children.

After 24 years of marriage, she was widowed at the young age of 42. The next phase of her life was spent raising her youngest child as a single parent while earning the respect and friendship of many members of the community as she served for 22 years as deputy clerk of the U.S. District Court and for 14 years as deputy clerk of Scott County Circuit Court and Common Pleas Circuit Court of Cape Girardeau County. She retired with distinction and honor in 1992 at the age of 69.

Margie spent the remaining 31 years of her life enjoying her home, creating and maintaining long-standing, strong and loving relationships with her family, neighbors, lifelong friends and extended family members from childhood, and providing comfort and companionship to the many nieces, nephews and grandchildren of her and her husband's siblings, who would all pass away before her.

She lovingly provided safe refuge to many animal companions throughout her life, and the yard of her home was the source of food and sanctuary to the many wild birds, squirrels and rabbits that visited her window daily and brought her so much joy and entertainment with their antics.

Her role as matron of the family and memory record keeper to many will be forever cherished by all those who knew and met her. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey (Nancy) Williams, and granddaughters, Diane and Mary Kate; daughter-in-law, Sharon Williams, and granddaughter, Kimberly (Skip) Evans, and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Paige and Riley, and great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Sawyer; granddaughter, Carol (Joel) Crady, and great-grandchildren, Kyle and Jacob; and granddaughter, Jennifer Maxwell, and great-grandson Matthew.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau, with funeral service immediately following in the chapel at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Forrest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley.
