Margaret A. Welker, 92, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born on May 5, 1918, to Joseph L. and Margaret Sharpe Mitchell in Axtell, Kan. She married Loy "Fritz" Welker on April 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1999...

Margaret A. Welker, 92, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born on May 5, 1918, to Joseph L. and Margaret Sharpe Mitchell in Axtell, Kan. She married Loy "Fritz" Welker on April 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1999.

Margaret attended St. Anthony's Murdock Memorial School of Nursing in Sabetha, Kan., and graduated in 1940. She worked at Old Saint Francis Hospital. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish.

She is survived by a daughter, Marcia Walton and special friend Mark Bliss of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons, Chris (Amy) Patterson and Brad "BJ" (Casey) Patterson; one granddaughter, Katie Walton, six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Leo Mitchell and Kenneth Mitchell; and two sisters, Josephine Plunkett and Evelyn Hunter.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd., in Cape Girardeau.

Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary's Cathedral Parish in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Tom Kiefer as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Notre Dame Regional High School or St. Mary's Cathedral and will be accepted at the funeral home.
