EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Margaret Verna Shelby of St. Louis will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston. Shelby, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, at her home. She was born Sept. 19, 1907, at Charleston, daughter of C.I. and Martha V. Harris Lutz. She and A.C. "Clarence" Shelby were married in 1927. He died Sept. 16, 1984...

Shelby, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, at her home.

She was born Sept. 19, 1907, at Charleston, daughter of C.I. and Martha V. Harris Lutz. She and A.C. "Clarence" Shelby were married in 1927. He died Sept. 16, 1984.

Formerly of East Prairie and Charleston, Shelby had lived in St. Louis 40 years. She retired in 1972 as head of the claims department with American Family Insurance Co.

She was a member of Nelson Memorial Methodist Church in East Prairie.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Watson of Maryland Heights; a son, Stephen Shelby of Houston, Texas; a brother, C.I. "Peachy" Lutz of Charleston; two sisters, Barbara Baker of Kennett, Emma Ryder of Brentwood, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
