CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Margaret Rolwing Stricker, 97, of Charleston died Monday, April 24, 2017, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 27, 1919, in the Texas Bend community of Mississippi County, Missouri, to the late Otto J. and Ethel Newcum Rolwing. She and John Joseph Stricker were married Feb. 21, 1944, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1982.
She was a lifelong member of St. Henry Catholic Church and was in the first graduating class of St. Henry High School in 1937. She then attended Nazareth College (now Spalding University) in Bardstown, Kentucky. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed traveling.
A member of the Mississippi County Extension Club, she was a 4-H leader for many years, was involved in the Scott County and Mississippi County historical societies, the Civil War Roundtable of Cape Girardeau and a charter member of the Copper Dome Society at Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by two sons, Robert F. (Lolita) Stricker of Pedasi, Panama, and Carl (Bernadette) Stricker of Charleston; two daughters, Martha S. (Stephen) Slaten of Cape Girardeau and Mary Jeanne (William) Weber of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Angela (Dave) Christian and Garrett (Amy) Stricker of Benton, Missouri, Stephanie (Jacob) Shreve of Apollo Beach, Florida, Sarah (Berin) Waller of Kirkwood, Missouri, Laura (Josh) Shaw of Effingham, Illinois, Michael Weber of Nashville, Tennessee, and Julia E. Weber of Kansas City, Missouri; also 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Norbert Rolwing, John Francis Rolwing, Mark Rolwing and Patrick Rolwing; and three sisters, Sister Helen Rolwing, OSU, Major Miriam D. Rolwing, USAF, and Rosemary R. Orr.
Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston.
Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with Monsignor Richard Rolwing, of Cape Girardeau, serving as celebrant. Interment will be in Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston, under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Garrett Stricker, Michael Weber, David Christian, Jacob Shreve, Berin Waller and Josh Shaw.
