TAMMS, Ill. -- Margaret Bennett Jordan, 97, of Tamms went to her heavenly home at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, with her children at her bedside.
She was born June 16, 1909, in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., daughter of Charley and Maney Ahrens Edmundson. She married Harry Bennett Dec. 24, 1926, and to this union seven children were born. He preceded her in death, and she later married the Rev. Louis Jordan Aug. 1, 1954, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jordan was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tamms. Granny enjoyed working in her yard and was an avid gardener. She was well known for her green thumb and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed family gatherings and singing hymns.
She is survived by two sons, Charley (Emma Dell) Bennett of Tamms, Jack (Shirley) Bennett of Anna; three daughters, Mary Chester of Goreville, Ill., Hazel Vaughn of Mounds, Ill., JoAnn Benefield of Tamms; two stepchildren, Leila (Russ) Renfro of Jackson, Sheridan Jordan of Benton, Ill.; a sister, Ramona Siegfried of Woodriver, Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and two great- great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two daughters, Ella Needy and June Plumb; three sons-in-law, Harry Chester, Carl Vaughn and Bill Plumb; three stepchildren, Ellinore Clutts, Sherman Jordan and Bernoid Jordan; four sisters, Gladys, Ethel, Helen, Louella; a brother, Charley; and a great granddaughter, Jane Alexander.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with her grandson, Michael Vaughn, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery at Olive Branch.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
