Margaret Buerkle, 82, of Sunset Hills, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1993, at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Cape Girardeau.
Buerkle graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, and received a master's degree in 1947 from Washington University. She taught five years at Egypt Mills. She joined the Mehlville School District in 1937, where she served as a teacher, supervisor and elementary school principal until retiring in 1975. She was instrumental in introducing kindergarten to the Mehlville District. Buerkle Junior High School was named in her honor.
She was active and had held offices in several church, social and professional organizations, including Kappa Delta Pi, Kappa Kappa Iota, Missouri State Teachers Association, Association for Childhood Education, and Elementary Principals of Missouri and St. Louis County. She was an elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Buerkle of Sunset Hills.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. A committal service will be held at 4 at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call at Bopp Funeral Chapel in Kirkwood from 4-8 p.m. Friday.
