Malita Alvarene Stubblefield, 103, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1908, in Marion, Ill., to John S. and Rosa Lee Cockrum Provart. She and Robert Paul Stubblefield were married Dec. 23, 1941, in Goldsboro, N.C. He preceded her in death July 11, 1992.
Malita graduated from high school in Marion and attended Brown's Business College. Malita volunteered at the Senior Center many years and was awarded a 700-hour volunteer pin from the Missouri Veterans Home.
Malita's family would like to express their gratitude to the management and staff of Fountainbleau Lodge for the dedicated, compassionate care they gave to Malita during her stay at the facility.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and a former member of First Baptist Church in Marion.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Lewis of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating.
