Maldetta Hinkle, 98, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Anna, Ill., died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the home of her son in Cape Girardeau following an extended illness.
She was born on Jan. 13, 1911, in Mount Pleasant, Ill., to Earl and Verdie Osman Miles. She married Loren Hinkle on Sept. 24, 1927. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1983.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna.
She is survived by one son, ret. Col. Phil (Sharon) Hinkle, USMC, of Cape Girardeau; three grandsons, Loren Hinkle of Kirkwood, Mo., Brad (Marnie) Hinkle of Newbury Park, Calif., and Barrett Hinkle of Cape Girardeau; two great-grandchildren, Madison and McKinley Hinkle of Newbury Park; two brothers, Earl (Virginia) Miles of Collinsville, Ill. Bob Miles of St. Louis; a sister, Glenna Cochran of Belleville, Ill.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Dean Miles.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Crain Funeral Home, with Rev. Tony Foeller officiating. Interment will be in Anna Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cape Girardeau Safe Harbor No-Kill Animal Sanctuary, Southeast Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
