Malcolm Roland Schack, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at The Lutheran Home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Elmer and Louise Suedekum Schack. He married Karen Hayden, daughter of John and Mabel Hayden, on June 21, 1957, in Cape Girardeau.
Malcolm was a member of Cape Calvary Temple.
He graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1955. He played baseball and football, and was offered a football scholarship to Mizzou, which he declined. He then entered the Navy, where he was a corpsman in the Seabees for two years, receiving an honorable discharge. Malcolm had been in the Naval Reserve for two years prior to going into active duty. He retired from Ameren UE after 31 years Dec. 28, 1990. He had been an avid turkey and deer hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Karen R. Schack of Cape Girardeau; daughters Melody Lynn (Cliff) Burgess and Julie Michelle McGrath, both of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Kaitlin McGrath, Lorilyn (Andy) Noce and Joshua Burgess, all of Cape Girardeau; two great-grandchildren, Jayce Burgess and Lucius Noce, both of Cape Girardeau; and a brother-in-law, Ron Hayden of DeKalb, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Mabel and John Hayden; and his son-in-law, Timothy McGrath.
A private graveside service will be at a later date, with the Rev. Jack Cathcart officiating.
