Madonna R. Englehart, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at her home.
She was born June 20, 1934, in Jackson, daughter of Myron Clelland and Flora Kathleen Koehler Eggers. She and James B. Englehart were married Dec. 27, 1956.
Madonna attended Fruitland Elementary School and graduated from Jackson High School. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1956. She began her teaching career that fall in the Advance, Mo., public schools. She also taught in Missouri schools at Puxico, Portageville, Poplar Bluff, Jackson and Scott County Central schools. Madonna was also librarian at Meadow Heights in Patton, Mo., and Delta School District. She retired in 1997.
She was christened and confirmed at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. She has been a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau more than 40 years, where she was active in UMW and served as a Sunday school teacher and in numerous other positions.
Madonna is survived by her husband, James Englehart of Cape Girardeau; a son, James Brent (Tresa) Englehart of Jackson; two sisters, Dorothy (Leonard) Pfeiffer of Jackson, Elizabeth (Earl) Szwabo of Florissant, Mo.; two grandchildren, Paige Englehart of Cape Girardeau and James Brent Englehart II of Jackson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Joe, and two sisters, Sarah and Evelyn.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or Lutheran Home Hospice.
