Madeline B. Godwin, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Henry J. and Matilda Heuer Brinkopf. She married Franklin Barnes in 1938 in Chicago. She then married James Peacock in 1962 in Germany, and later married William Godwin in 1977 in Cape Girardeau. All preceded her in death...

Madeline B. Godwin, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Henry J. and Matilda Heuer Brinkopf. She married Franklin Barnes in 1938 in Chicago. She then married James Peacock in 1962 in Germany, and later married William Godwin in 1977 in Cape Girardeau. All preceded her in death.

Godwin is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She taught at American Dependents School in Germany and retired from Chicago schools.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Guild, Lutheran Home Auxiliary and Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include three nieces, Juliene Beard of Cape Girardeau, Lawanda Ross of Winter Haven, Fla., Jean Schack of Austin, Texas; two nephews, John Roth of New Florence, Mo., and Harold Brinkopf of Moline, Ill.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
