Melvin Mac Smith, 77, of Scott City died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Life Care Center. He was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa, son of James Charles and Dora Darlene Dixon Smith. Melvin Mac Smith, 77, of Scott City died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Life Care Center.

He was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa, son of James Charles and Dora Darlene Dixon Smith. He and Geneva Owens were married. She preceded him in death. He and Joan Wilfawn were married; she preceded him in death.

Smith was a self-employed mechanic and construction worker. He also worked as a watchman for Ely Walker Co. in Scott City.

Smith served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Smith of Florissant, Mo., Paul Smith of Chaffee, Mo., Mac Smith of Jackson and Donnie Wilfawn of Cape Girardeau; six daughters, Jeanie Lincoln of Jackson, Susie Smith of St. Louis, Mary Hopper of Commerce, Mo., Linda Sikes, Maxine Wahler and Margie LeDure, all of Scott City; three brothers, Danny Smith of Cape Girardeau, David Smith of Sikeston, Mo., and John Smith of St. Louis; six sisters, Audrey Matthews of Lincoln, Ill., Imogene Hanger of Mililano, Hawaii, Joann Houck of Benton, Mo., Kathleen Woolridge of Jonesboro, Ill., Annie Leonard of Spanaway, Wash. and Sharon Raines of Scott City; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a brother and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City at 12 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.
