Mac D. McDonnell passed away early Thursday, June 3, 2010, after suffering complications following congestive heart failure. Mac was a copper miner, an archaeologist and a much-loved local character in Cape Girardeau. Quick with a joke, a story or flirtatious banter, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, both young and old. He was admired for his wisdom, and he was known for his generous heart and the love he had for his family and friends...

Mac D. McDonnell passed away early Thursday, June 3, 2010, after suffering complications following congestive heart failure.

Mac was a copper miner, an archaeologist and a much-loved local character in Cape Girardeau.

Quick with a joke, a story or flirtatious banter, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, both young and old. He was admired for his wisdom, and he was known for his generous heart and the love he had for his family and friends.

He is survived by a sister, Sandy; a son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Kim Lease McDonnell; grandsons, Scott and Derek; and a daughter, Rhonda McDonnell.

He was preceded in death by many he deeply loved, particularly his wife, Ruth, whom he missed for eight years and has now rejoined.

Those who would like to remember Mac are invited to join friends and family from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
