CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Mabel Louise Shy, 90, of New Madrid, Missouri, formerly of Chaffee, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at The Golden Living Center in New Madrid.
She was born Oct. 3, 1923, in New Hamburg, Missouri, to Frank and Olivia Dumey Graser. She and Gordon "Doc" Shy were married Jan. 22, 1947. He preceded her in death March 22, 1999.
Mabel was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Daughters of St. Ambrose, American Legion and Chaffee VFW Auxiliary Post 3127. She was a clerk at Graser-Shy Supermarket in Chaffee.
Survivors include a son, John Shy of Apple Valley, California; three daughters, Cheryl Young of Olathe, Kansas, Mary Shy and Gail Shy of New Madrid; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass on Wednesday at St. Ambrose Church.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant, and the Rev. Jaroslaw Z. Skrzypek and Deacon James Darter as concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery.
