CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Mabel Tenkhoff, 93, of Charleston died Monday, July 16, 2018, at her home.
She was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Texas Bend in Mississippi County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Henry L. and Appalonia "Appie" Unterreiner Renaud. She was married to Glen Tenkhoff, who preceded her in death. Also proeceding her in death was her son, Doug Simmons of Charleston.
Mabel was a member of different church groups through the years and a past member of the Charleston Country Club. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, starting in 1943 after graduating from St. Henry High School. She started at the old switchboards in Charleston, later moving to be a service observer and plant assigner with the company, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Guardian Angel Parish in Oran, Missouri, for 35 years. After Glen's passing, she returned to Charleston in 2014 to resume membership at St. Henry.
Survivors are her daughter, Sharon (Chris) Naas of Barlow, Kentucky; grandchildren Jennifer (Burlin) Brower of Kevil, Kentucky, Eric Beardsley of St. Augustine, Florida, Brandon (Lauren) Beardsley of St. Augustine, Luke (Lindsay) Simmons of Cincinnati, Amy (Neal) Thompson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Ashlea (Matt) Hogancamp of Franklin, Tennessee; stepgrandchildren Sarah Naas of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Jason Naas of Barlow; great-randchildren Ellie, Brant and Alexa Brower of Kevil, Addisen and Kloe Beardsley of St. Augustine, Olivia and Appie Thompson of Ankeny, Wren Simmons of Cincinnati, Ayla Hogancamp and expected baby brother, Jude, any day of Franklin.
Mabel also was preceded in death by all her siblings, Mildred Renaud, Beatrice Baudendistel, Gertrude Stricker, Delbert Renaud, Catherine Pottinger, Henry Renaud and Harold Renaud.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McMickle Funeral Home in Charleston, where prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by sharing of memories.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston. The Rev. David Dohogne, pastor of St. Henry, the Rev. Randy Tochtrop, pastor of Guardian Angel, and Monsignor Richard Rowling and the Rev. Normand Varone, both retired priests from Cape Girardeau, will officiate. Interment will be at Guardian Angel Cemetery (Hill) in Oran.
