JACKSON -- Mabel Henderson, 87, of Jackson, died at her home Sunday, Dec. 26, 1993. She was born Jan. 5, 1906, at Fruitland, daughter of Eli and Effie Noland McDowell. She married Wesley Henderson July 24, 1946. He died July 9, 1989. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and taught elementary school for 41 years, 28 of which were at Lorimier School in Cape Girardeau. She taught at Lorimier when she retired...

JACKSON -- Mabel Henderson, 87, of Jackson, died at her home Sunday, Dec. 26, 1993.

She was born Jan. 5, 1906, at Fruitland, daughter of Eli and Effie Noland McDowell.

She married Wesley Henderson July 24, 1946. He died July 9, 1989.

She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and taught elementary school for 41 years, 28 of which were at Lorimier School in Cape Girardeau. She taught at Lorimier when she retired

She was a lifetime member of the National Parent Teachers Association and National Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and was an avid gardener.

Survivors are a brother, Harry McDowell, Fruitland; a sister, Maxine Tacke, Springfield, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Jackson with the Rev. Nancy Woods officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at McCombs between 4 and 8 tonight.
