M. Gene Martin, 73, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999 around 9:15 a.m. in Columbia, Mo. as a result of an auto accident. He was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Cape Girardeau. He married Marian Bahn on Dec. 31, 1968 in Cape. Mrs. Martin survives in Columbia, along with his mother, Mrs. Mina Wolfenkoehler of Columbia, one son, Douglas Martin of Columbia; one stepbrother, John William Wolfenkoehler of Salina, Ok. A son, Bruce Martin died in 1995...

Mrs. Martin survives in Columbia, along with his mother, Mrs. Mina Wolfenkoehler of Columbia, one son, Douglas Martin of Columbia; one stepbrother, John William Wolfenkoehler of Salina, Ok. A son, Bruce Martin died in 1995.

Mr. Martin was a graduate of Cape College High School, SEMO University and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois. He had been librarian in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeffersonville, Ind., Ironton Regional Library, Ironton, Mo., Cape Girardeau Public Library and the past 25 years at Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia, Mo., retiring in 1991. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday 1:30 p.m. at Ford and Sons Sprigg St. Chapel in Cape Girardeau. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be held at the Columbia Daniel Boone Regional Library at a later date. The family requests memorials to the Columbia Public Library or Central Missouri Humane Society in Columbia, Mo.
