Lynn Hey

Lynn LeRoy Hey, 91, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Dearing, Kan., the third of five children to Roy and Ethel Hey.

The family moved to Coffeyville, Kan., where he was educated at McKinley Grade School and Coffeyville High School. He and Edna Chaney were married Oct. 22, 1938, and together they enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and golf.

Hey served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force and flew 27 combat missions over France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was later awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal, four Oak Leaf Clusters, Aerial Gunner Badge, American Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon.

After the war, Hey resumed his career at Sinclair Oil Co. He was transferred to Topeka, Kan., in 1955 where he was assigned plant manager responsibilities. In 1967 he was transferred to St. Louis, where he managed the home heating division for ARCO. He retired in 1983 and moved to Cape Girardeau.

Hey was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion and Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Edna; two sons, Jeffery L. (Mary) Hey of St. Louis, Everett E. (Tina) Hey of Jackson; six grandchildren, Brian Hey, Mark Hey, Christina Hey, Erin (Ben) Hankins, Heather Nejman, Megan (Mark) Westman; four stepgrandsons, Jacob LeGrand, Robert LeGrand, Michael LeGrand, Christopher LeGrand; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Hankins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military rites by Missouri Honor Team.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Methodist Church or a local food pantry.
