Lyman F. Evans, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Cape Girardeau, son of Walter and Marie Hawthorne Evans. He and Agnes Littell were married Sept. 10, 1932. She died July 27, 1992.

Mr. Evans graduated from Central High School in 1929, and from Southeast Missouri State University in 1933 with a bachelor of science degree. He received a master's in education degree from the University of Missouri in 1948. He did additional graduate work at the University of Iowa during the summer of 1937 and the University of Colorado during the summer of 1953.

He began his education career at Blodgett Schools in Blodgett, Mo. He worked at Blodgett from 1933 to 1943, becoming superintendent of schools. He was superintendent of schools at Advance R-3 School District from 1943 to 1957. He was director of admissions at Southeast University from 1958 to 1975.

Mr. Evans served as secretary of Southeast Missouri District Teachers Association from 1960 to 1975. He was honored by the association in 1975, and a cottage named for him was built at Bunker Hill Ranch Resort from money donated by the district association.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, former member of Kiwanis Club, member of Phi Delta Kappa, member of Webster Literary Society at Southeast University and president in 1932, and member of Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Vickie Evans of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Mary Walther of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Andrew Evans and wife Kara of San Diego, Calif., Christina Evans of Eureka, Calif., Leah Michaels of Maui, Hawaii; and several nieces and nephews.

There is no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Cemetery, with the Rev. Jay White officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Southeast Missouri State University Foundation.

Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
