Lyman Wayne Cartner, 65, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Thebes, Ill., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born April 24, 1941, at Cairo, Ill., son of William Wayne and Nadine Halbin Cartner.
Cartner retired from the U.S. Army in 1980. He operated a heating and air conditioning business between Thebes and Olive Branch, Ill. Cartner was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Tamms, Ill., an officer of the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star Chapter of the Scottish Rites, the Ainad Shriners, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Thebes Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Cartner of Paducah, Ky.; a daughter, Margaret Trager of Salem, Ore; two stepdaughters, Katherine Register of Paducah and Stacy Ballard of Murphysboro, Ill.; four half-brothers, Daryl Ross of Mount Vernon, Ill., Dan Harpol of Lenzburg, Ill., Brian Harpol of Cape Girardeau and Mike Harpol of Peoria, Ill.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, stepmother and father.
Graveside services were held Monday at the Mound City National Cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Kaufman officiated.
Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.
