Lyle William Hutteger, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at Life Care Center.
He was born Feb. 2, 1946, in El Monte, California, to Melvin Raymond and Wiona Helena Meyr Hutteger. He and Susan McDonald were married Feb. 13, 1971, at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Lyle was a graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University.
He served in the Missouri National Guard and graduated officer training school. Lyle served as a general’s aide during his career.
He started his career in sales in Cape Girardeau with the JCPenny company. He went on to become personnel and operations manager, which took him to Bloomington, Illinois; Carbondale Illinois; St. Louis; and Muncie, Indiana. He and Susan moved back to the Cape Girardeau area in 1978 to raise their family. He continued his sales and sales management career in a number of area businesses, including Equitable Insurance and Honda.
Lyle loved reading his Bible and daily devotions. He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church.
He was devoted to coaching his two boys' baseball teams for many years in Cape Giradeau. He was a great dad, grandfather and husband. He loved playing with his six grandkids. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Hutteger of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Tim (Allison) Hutteger of Leawood, Kansas, and Greg (Ellen) Hutteger of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Cynthia Lewis of Munroe Falls, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Cooper, Lily and Mia and Abby, Carson and Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Bening.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Kevin Coffee officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Lynwood Baptist Church Building Expansion Fund.
