Lyle E. "Bob" Bishop, 78, of Jackson died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 7, 1932, at Neely's Landing, to Archie L. and Margaret Bullard Bishop. He and Shirley Ludwig were married Dec. 10, 1955, at Bolivar, Mo.
Bob served with the Marine Corps in Korea. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Marine Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and United Nations Medal.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Jackson Masonic Lodge and was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bishop of Jackson; two sons, Robert (Christine) Bishop of Harvey, La., John (Carla) Bishop of Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Lori (Steve) Mills of St. Peters, Mo.; two brothers, the Rev. Delbert Bishop of Oran, Mo., the Rev. Jack Bishop of Chaffee, Mo.; two sisters, Sharon McCullough and LaDora Sides of Jackson; four grandchildren, Emily Mills of Minneapolis, Samuel Mills of St. Peters, Stephanie and Robert Bishop of Harvey; a stepgrandchild, Amanda (Duane) Dempster of Springfield; and expecting a new member to the family, a great-granddaughter, Ainsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau. Military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church in Jackson or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
