Luella Brase

Luella Alma Brase, 97, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Gordonville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born June 21, 1914, in Gordonville, daughter of William A. and Pauline A. Nothdurft Deneke. She and Harvey M. Brase were married Nov. 21, 1944. He passed away Nov. 3, 2010.

Luella was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville. She taught Sunday school, was a member of WMU and held several positions in the church throughout the years. Luella was a teacher for many years at Poplar Ridge, Liberty and Sandy Ridge schools. She and her husband also owned and operated a dairy farm near Gordonville before retiring and moving to Cape Girardeau in 1982.

Loving survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Harvey Lee (Beverly) Brase of Gordonville, Robert (Janet) Brase of Jackson, Dan (Pat) Brase of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren, Randy Lee and Beth, Jennifer, Ryan and Kara, and Todd and Trisha; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Emil Brase of Jackson, Herbert (Mildred) Brase of Nixa, Mo., O.D. Niswonger Jr. and Melba Brase.

In addition to her husband, Harvey, of 65 years, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Nelson, Roy and Orville Deneke; and a sister, Marie Niswonger.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at Zion United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
