Lucy Masters

Lucy B. Masters, 91, of Republic, Mo., formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Christian Health and Rehab in Republic.

She was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Advance, Mo., to Ora Jessie and Nellie Belle McKinney James. She married E.A. Masters, who preceded her in death.

Lucy's work career spanned more than 60 years and included managing both the Bellas Hess Catalog Store in Cape Girardeau and the Dollar General Store in Jackson. At the age of 80, Lucy retired from Sam's Club, where she was working as a greeter. Lucy was a proud member of the Cape Girardeau Chapter of Eastern Star and a member of First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Steven) Planz of Billings, Mo.; a brother, Naaman James of Dittmer, Mo.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, four sisters, two stepsons and a stepdaughter.

Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Methodist Church Cemetery in Daisy, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.
