POPLAR BLUFF -- Funeral service for Lucy Geneva Chronister of Poplar Bluff will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kurt Schuermann officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Cotrell Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.
Chronister, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Doctors Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Charleston, daughter of Clarence and Thelma Quertermous. She and Bill Chronister were married Jan. 23, 1945.
During World War II, Chronister was a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She also had been a secretary to the dean of agriculture at the University of Missouri, was a secretary at Ellington, Kennett and Lutesville schools, and retired from Poplar Bluff Schools in 1989.
She was a member of First Methodist Church, East Highway Community Club, and Amvets Auxiliary 29.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kirk Chronister of Poplar Bluff; five brothers, Auburn Quertermous of Sikeston, Dennis Quertermous of Bertrand, Leslie Quertermous of Diehlstadt, Glenn and Kenneth Quertermous of Charleston; three sisters, Ramona Fletcher of Rincon, Ga., Helen Strickland of Senatobia, Miss., and Jeanne Williams of Birmingham, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, and a brother.
