Lucretia Elizabeth Thomas died April 23, 2003, at her home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Herbert and Vivian Wilson Gaden, who preceded her in death. She and Cornelius Thomas were married Feb. 6, 1946, in Blytheville, Ark.

Lucretia graduated from John S. Cobb School in 1941. She was a band member, member of Golden Age Club and Cape Family Resource Centers Senior group. She retired from Sears Roebuck, where she was a salesclerk 16 years. She was a supervisor judge at Polling Station No. 9 in Cape Girardeau.

She was a dedicated and active member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Cape Girardeau, where she was a member since she was a small child. She served in many offices, currently steward, and was treasurer many years. She was a past choir member.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Edward Pikes Sr.; a loving sister, Alvina Glover of Cape Girardeau; a stepbrother, Joe Willie Harvey of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandsons, Edward Jr., Jerome and Edmund Pikes, all of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter-in-law, Willa Pikes of Cape Girardeau; and a great-grandson, Gerson Pikes of Puerto Rico.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at St. James A.M.E. Church.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. David Allen Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
