Lucille Virginia Ford, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ben and Ida Boxdorfer Griffaw. She and Ray "Tiny" Ford were married Oct. 5, 1938, in St. Louis.

Ford was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School. She was active in sports as a young woman, playing softball and basketball. She competed in the Powder Puff Derby and won several events. She had been associated in several family businesses.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and past secretary of the Laryngectomy Association.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ray Ford of Chesterfield, Mo., Mike Ford of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Patricia "Patty" Ford of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Stella Tarr, Katie Patrick and Margaret Rafferty of Cape Girardeau, Mabel Ferrell of Alton, Ill.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Charles Prost officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
