Lucille Cook, 82, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 28, 1921, at Whitewater, daughter of Lee and Ida Barks Huffman. She and Ruthford Cook were married Dec. 24, 1938. He died Dec. 30, 1980...

Lucille Cook, 82, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 28, 1921, at Whitewater, daughter of Lee and Ida Barks Huffman. She and Ruthford Cook were married Dec. 24, 1938. He died Dec. 30, 1980.

Lucille was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson, where she had been active in the Adult Sunday School Class.

She had worked at the former Hosiery Mill, former Jackson Dressed Meat, and the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson. In 1995 she and her son, Ron, co-founded Cook's Bar-B-Q in Jackson, where she worked until ill health forced her to retire in 2001. She had resided at the Monticello House in Jackson for the past year.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Cook and wife Jane of Centralia, Mo., Ron Cook of Jackson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joletta and Martin Allen of Sikeston, Mo., Sharon and Ed Pinkerton and Judy and Ted Clark of Jackson; two brothers, Lloyd Huffman of Zalma, Mo., Loren Huffman of Marble Hill; three sisters, Aleen Garland of Marble Hill, Mo., Kathleen Douglas of St. Louis and Ruby Morrison of Murphysboro, Ill.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Marty Allen and wife Jan of Farmington, Mo., Tammy Wadlington and husband Robert of Benton, Mo., Cindy Hulshof and husband Mark of Dexter, Mo., Sandy Penzel and husband Phil of Jackson, Eddie Pinkerton and wife LaShay of Jackson, Kevin Cook and wife Michelle of Cape Girardeau, Jeff Stevens of Jackson; 14 great-grandchildren, Blake, Austin and Lauren Wadlington; Emily, Tyler and Ryan Hulshof; Morgan and Keegan Allen; Andrea and Allison Penzel; Jordan and Camron Pinkerton; Taylor Stevens; and Alexa Cook.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Huffman officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Southeast Missouri Hospice.
