KELSO, Mo. -- Lucas John Ressel, 85, of Kelso died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Illmo, to Otto Joseph and Lorene Theresia Schlosser Ressel. He married Alice Alma Glastetter on May 30, 1952. She preceded in death on Nov. 23, 2010...

KELSO, Mo. -- Lucas John Ressel, 85, of Kelso died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Illmo, to Otto Joseph and Lorene Theresia Schlosser Ressel. He married Alice Alma Glastetter on May 30, 1952. She preceded in death on Nov. 23, 2010.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, Knights of Columbus Council No. 6420 of Scott City and VFW Post 6407 in Scott City. He worked at Ressel Construction Co. with his dad and brother Jim. He became an electrician after going to night school. He worked the farm he was born on his whole life. He loved to read, teach math problems on the kitchen table, play euchre, tell stories, work with his tractor, eat cookies and keep track of everything in his little notebook he kept in his shirt pocket.

He is survived by his 13 children: Bradley (Sandy) Ressel, Diane (Kenny) Page, both of Scott City, Linda (Jim) Wade of Benton, Mo., Elaine (Tracy) Estes, Patrick (Cheryl) Ressel, Sharon (Wesley) Uhrhan, all of Scott City, Kevin (Yvonne) Ressel of Nesbit, Miss., Dennis (Brenda) Ressel of Kelso, Brian (Connie) Ressel of Chaffee, Mo., Vickie (Curtis) Hall, Jeffrey (Amy) Ressel, Douglas (Karen) Ressel, all of Scott City and Craig (Alison) Ressel of Chaffee.

Also surviving are his grandchildren and their children: Jason (Kelly) Ressel, Lexi and Halle; Matthew (Kyla) Ressel and Ella Mae; Christie (Andy) Rodgers, Lauren, Andrew and Eli; Amy (Stephen), Landon and Avarie; Jennifer (Norman) Brant; Pamela (Johnny) Carter, and Reese; Wesley (Allison) Page, Claire and Brock Lucas; Cody Page; Jeremy (Tara) Wade, Kate, Luke and Seth; Wendy (Chris) Holt, Nick and Kaylie; Travis (Jenny) Estes and Carlie; Trenton Estes; Ryan (Stephanie) Ellinger, Cole, Aubrey and Gracie; Jacob Ressel; Megan (Ben) Sample; Lori (Wes) Short; Eric Uhrhan; Josh, Derek, Madelyn and Colin Ressel; Curtis, Clayton, Macy and Marisa Hall; Caleb and Hannah Ressel; Tyler and Emma Ressel; Lindsey, Alex and Harley Ressel; stepgrandchildren and their children, Chris Davis and Creed; Joey Jacobs; Kylie Laxton; Taylor Laxton and Zahara; two brothers, Marcus (Georgia) Ressel of Kelso, James (Ester) Ressel of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Valeria (Jim) Mirgeaux and Judy Stevens, both of Kelso, Joan (Joe) Gleason of San Dimas, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; three sisters, Mary Ann Weber, Gertrude Williams and Lee Jones; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso with parish prayers at 7:30, followed by a Knights of Columbus service at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating.

Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
