Loyd M. "Jack" Harmon, a Columbia resident who graduated from Cape Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University, died Friday, June 12, 1998, in Columbia. He was 71.
He was born Nov.. 23, 1926, on a farm near Coffeyville, Kan., son of Loyd Albert and Margaret Kathryn Wood Harmon. He married Patsy Baker on Feb. 23, 1952. She survives.
He served on an aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a deacon in the Memorial Baptist Church, a member of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge 93 in Cape Girardeau and the Columbia Downtown Optimist Club.
He graduated from Southeast with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1952 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the university in 1994.
He retired in 1992 as executive director of the American Heart Association Missouri Affiliate, ending a 31-year career with the Heart Association.
He also is survived by a son, Jim Harmon of Harrisburg, and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia, with the Rev. Bob Webb officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
