Lowell R. Hawkins, 77, of Chana, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at KSB Hospital in Dixon, Ill. He was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Lowell and Lettie Alexander Hawkins. He and Beverly Harriett were married April 12, 1953, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. She died Sept. 21, 1967...

Lowell R. Hawkins, 77, of Chana, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at KSB Hospital in Dixon, Ill.

He was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Lowell and Lettie Alexander Hawkins. He and Beverly Harriett were married April 12, 1953, in Sherman Oaks, Calif. She died Sept. 21, 1967.

Hawkins had lived in Chana since 1967. He had been employed at Griffith Lumber Co. in Chana, owned and operated the Hungry Eye Antique Store, and then a general store.

He was an avid gardener, reader and experimental cook. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a son, John (Angela) Hawkins of Kings, Ill.; five daughters, Linda (James) Bowen of Zion, Ill., Amy (Steve) Lambermont of North Olmsted, Ohio, Kelly (Garner) Stevens of Oregon, Ill., Lettie (Allen) Brunswick of Montgomery, Ala., Becky Williams of North Carolina; a sister, Peggy Soltman of Marble Hill, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother-in-law Goldie Harriett.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Efrain Avila, pastor of Chana United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missouri Conservation Department.
