Amanda Louise Swan, 88, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson and Pocahontas, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, at Southeast Hospital. She was born Jan. 9, 1925, near Neelys Landing, daughter of Ben and Clara Louise Jacobs Morton. She and Leonard Nelson "Lefty" Swan were married April 23, 1944, in Lebanon, Pa. Amanda Louise Swan, 88, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson and Pocahontas, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born Jan. 9, 1925, near Neelys Landing, daughter of Ben and Clara Louise Jacobs Morton. She and Leonard Nelson "Lefty" Swan were married April 23, 1944, in Lebanon, Pa. He passed away June 4, 1995.

Louise was a 1943 graduate of Jackson High School, and worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas for many years, having been baptized and confirmed Dec. 2, 1945. She served on the hospitality committee at the church, and was a member of Pocahontas Homemakers Club.

Loving survivors include two sons, Nelson (Carol) Swan and Leonard (Gaye) Swan of Jackson; a daughter, Ellen (Howard) Lewis of Jackson; four grandchildren, Gaye Lynn (Ron) Henry of South Riding, Va., Chris Buchheit of Jackson, Brent Lewis and Emily (Eric) Vogelweid of Columbia, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Collin Henry; a brother, Joe (Agnes) Morton of Cape Girardeau; and a sister-in-law, Margie Swan of Pocahontas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Clark Morton.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery in Pocahontas.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.
