LOUISE SMITH

MORLEY, Mo. -- Louise A. Smith, 81, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Monday, March 5, 2001, in the Ocean Springs Hospital.

She was born March 4, 1920, at Morley, daughter of Clarence and Nellie Florence Bryant Abernathy. She and McGoy Smith were married Jan. 16, 1937. He died Dec. 5, 1983.

Smith had been a machine operator at International Hat Factory in Oran, Mo. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, and former member of First Baptist Church in Oran.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Smith of Sikeston, Mo., and Lanny Smith of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Carolyn Matthews of Ocean Springs; a brother, Harold Abernathy of Burkesville, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Lee Abernathy of Morley; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Garden near Morley.
