ORIOLE -- Louise Jane Abernathy, 94, of Oriole died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Jackson.
She was born Jan. 29, 1905, in Randolph County, Ark., daughter of William W. and Eliza Newsom Kinnard. She and Omer Lee Abernathy were married Sept. 22, 1924. He died Jan. 5, 1990.
Abernathy worked in housekeeping at the former Marquette Hotel in Cape Girardeau, and also did housekeeping for numerous families in Cape Girardeau.
She was a lifelong member of Iona Baptist Church and its Women's Missionary Union, and was a Sunday School teacher in the primary department.
Survivors include two sons, Jeroam Abernathy of Cape Girardeau, Gilbert Abernathy of Creve Couer, Ill.; four daughters, Rosa Farrow of Cape Girardeau, Jennie Rastl of Jackson, Dorothy Singleton and Leola Richardson of Oriole; 27 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ed Dodson will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.
