ORAN, Mo. -- Louis William Roberts, 87, of Oran died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.
He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Pascola, Mo., to George W. and Sinia F. Hughes Roberts. He married Pearl L. Weaver June 12, 1940, in Jaywye, Mo. She preceded him in death Feb. 20, 2007.
Survivors include seven children, Louis E. (Patricia Jane) Roberts of Perris, Calif., E. Eugenia (Jeannie) Boxdorfer of Jackson, Sharon R. Horvath of Oceanside, Calif., Ronnie G. Roberts of Farmington, Mo., Shirley J. (Robert) Turner of Marble Hill, Mo., Garry W. Roberts of Brooksville, Fla., Donna S. (Charles) Glueck of Oak Ridge; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Minnie) Roberts of Benton Harbor, Mich.; and a sister, Effie Sharman of Hope, Ark.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Louise; five brothers, Tommy Roberts, G.W. Roberts, James Mays, Paul Roberts and Frank Roberts; four sisters, a twin sister, Louise Roberts, Frances Proffer, Mary Duncan and Nellie Singleton.
Louis worked 37 1/2 years at the former International Hat Co. in Oran until it closed in 1984. He was then self-employed as a plumber and electrician 11 years.
He was a faithful member of Oran Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was custodian approximately 40 years. He was a member and past president of the United Methodist Men's Club, church council trustee, and member of the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee.
He had served as alderman for the city of Oran and had also served as an auxiliary policeman at Oran 11 years.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the pastor, Don Gandt, officiating. Burial will be in Friend Cemetery at Oran.
