JACKSON -- Louis R. Pensel, 91, of Jackson died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home where he had resided the past three years. He was born Nov. 1, 1907, in the St. John's community near Fruitland, the son of the late Christian and Caroline Friedrich Pensel. He and Edna Kasten were married July 27, 1930. She died Jan. 2, 1986...

JACKSON -- Louis R. Pensel, 91, of Jackson died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home where he had resided the past three years.

He was born Nov. 1, 1907, in the St. John's community near Fruitland, the son of the late Christian and Caroline Friedrich Pensel. He and Edna Kasten were married July 27, 1930. She died Jan. 2, 1986.

Mr. Pensel was a farmer all his life. He was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ and had served in numerous leadership positions within the church, including being on the church council and being a Sunday school teacher.

His civic and community leadership positions included 4-H leader for the former Brookside 4-H Club, former president of the Citizens Mutual Insurance Co. and board member of the former Schoenebeck School District.

He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Dorothy Pensel of Jackson, Raymond and Mary Ann Pensel of Cape Girardeau, Gerald and Mary Sue Pensel of Crestwood and Harold and Donna Pensel of rural Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine and Bob Feemster of Jackson; a sister, Linda Malone of Jackson; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McCombs Funeral Home at Jackson.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. The Rev. David Schaffner will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery west of Fruitland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Building Fund.
