CHARLESTON -- Funeral service for Lou McDowell Chambers of Charleston will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

The Rev. Richard Combs, pastor of the Charleston United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Chambers died Saturday at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was 85.

She was born Sept. 27, 1905 in Fruitland to the late William Henry and Hettie Noland McDowell. On Sept. 25, 1939, she married John Chambers, who survives of the home.

She had lived in Mississippi County for more than 50 years where she taught school at Texas Bend for a number of years. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church in Charleston.

Survivors include two brothers, Wilson McDowell of Charleston and Allen McDowell of Fruitland; and a sister, Lora Rieman of Jackson. Two brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
