Lorraine L. Rhodes Chandler of Whitewater passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born at Stroderville, near Whitewater, April 23, 1920, the daughter of George and Bell Dora Proffer Rhodes. She married Anthony Bova in 1941, who served in the U.S. Air Force in the World War II era. Anthony predeceased her. Lorraine married Glenn Chandler in 1953. They lived in St. Louis, where she was employed at Smith Jewelry for many years. When they retired, the couple moved to Whitewater to be near family. Glenn passed away in 2002.
Lorraine was of the Baptist faith, having been a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitewater.
She was an honorary member of Veterans of America and a Gold Circle Member of Disabled Veterans. One of her favorite charities was Lakota Indian School of North Dakota.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Gerald (Clarice) Jones of Jackson, Nancy Jones of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Joe Mike (Helga) Jones of Fargo, North Dakota, Martha Jane LaVergne of Picayune, Mississippi, Betty Shuls and Carol Jean Jeffries, both of Biloxi, Mississippi, Judy Sempkin of New London, Wisconsin, and Cindy Diggs Surlett of Aurora, Colorado.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kathleen Jones and Loretta Wheeler; two brothers, Raymond Rhodes and Harold Rhodes; her husband; their son, Jerome Chandler; two nephews, Fred O. Jones and David Rhodes; stepnephews, Ron Hedge and Harold Hedge; and stepniece, Karen Taylor Hedge.
The family would like to thank everyone at Ratliff Care Center for their exceptional care, especially Mary Hammond, whom Lorraine especially cared for and loved.
A graveside service for will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Stroderville Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee, Missouri.
