Iris Lorene Wood, 92, of Cape Girardeau went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, on her birthday.
Lorene was born Jan. 13, 1932, to Carl and Iva Hedspeth Kearbey in Cane Creek Valley in northern Butler County. She married Kenneth Leon Wood on Sept. 16, 1951, in Poplar Bluff.
Lorene and Kenneth built a life of serving their church and community. Lorene was a very witty and knowledgeable woman. Her greatest joys in life were helping others through volunteer work and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one brother, Verdis Kearbey; granddaughter, Megan Wood (Pablo Trejo); daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wood (Max Williamson); along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Wood; son, John Keith Wood; four brothers, Eugene, Lyle, Lyndle and Daris; and four sisters, Alpha, Lavern, Geraldine and Charlotte.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 22, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff.
Funeral will follow beginning at noon, with Pastor Glenn Hamilton officiating. Burial will take place at Sparkman Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
