CROSSROADS, Ill. -- Lora May Rodgers-Oliver, 88, of Crossroads, formerly of Chester and Du Quoin, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at her home. She was born July 28, 1909, in Johnson County, daughter of Daniel Franklin "Doc" and Mary Alice Cline Newton. She and Ernest Walter Rodgers were married Dec. 7, 1927, at Vienna. He died Dec. 30, 1979. She and Johnie Oliver were married May 27, 1990...

CROSSROADS, Ill. -- Lora May Rodgers-Oliver, 88, of Crossroads, formerly of Chester and Du Quoin, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at her home.

She was born July 28, 1909, in Johnson County, daughter of Daniel Franklin "Doc" and Mary Alice Cline Newton. She and Ernest Walter Rodgers were married Dec. 7, 1927, at Vienna. He died Dec. 30, 1979. She and Johnie Oliver were married May 27, 1990.

She attended Whiteside Public School. She was a homemaker.

She attended the Reynoldsburg Church near Tunnel Hill. She formerly attended Chester First Baptist Church and the Du Quoin Gospel Assembly Church. She attended the Pond Ladies organization.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Venita Bronenkant of Uniontown, Mo.; two stepsons, Bill Oliver of Grantsburg and Bob Oliver of Vienna; two stepdaughters, June Staton of Belknap and Mary Yandell of Tunnel Hill; two brothers, William M. Newton of Christopher and Victor Newton of Simpson; two sisters, Martha Faye Gould of Energy and Laura June Ausbrooks of Manteno; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant children and two brothers.

Friends may call at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Staton will officiate, with burial in the Paradise Cemetery at Bremen.
