Lola Mae Cherry, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Chaffee Nursing Home in Chaffee, Missouri.
She was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Clarksville, Arkansas, the daughter of Samuel Alexander and Eva Merle Warren Barnett. She married George "Leon" Cherry on Oct. 3, 1948. They had been married 64 years at the time he preceded her in death June 21, 2013.
Lola was an avid gardener. She especially enjoyed caring for her flowers. She was an accomplished seamstress, and through the years had sewn many quilts for her family and friends. Lola spent most of her free time reading.
Loving survivors include children, Barbara Bungard of Chillicothe, Illinois, Elizabeth (Frank) Madl of Cape Coral, Florida, and David (Melissa) Cherry of Scott City; grandchildren, Brian (Tiffany) Bungard, Jeff (Denise) Bungard, Dayne Cherry, Dylan Cherry, Troy Phegley and Jennifer (Brad) DeVoss; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three siblings, Emma Bohannon, Marilyn Richards and Arlis Barnett.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Phil Bungard.
A private family service is to be held and burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
