ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Lois Marie Weis, 94, died peacefully Friday, May 3, 2019, in St. Charles.
She was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Moline, Illinois, daughter of the Rev. Carl and Elsie Steinmann Hilgendorf. On July 15, 1945, she married the Rev. Earl E. Weis. He died Oct. 24, 2006.
Lois graduated from Geneseo, Illinois, High School, Concordia University in Chicago and also attended Indiana University, Northwestern University and Southeast Missouri State University, where she did her graduate work in English. She taught school in five states, retiring in 1986.
She was an organist, having positions in six churches. She taught Sunday school and directed the adult choir in Hammond, Indiana, and the children's choir in Jackson. She was a Girl Scout leader in Indiana.
After her retirement, she became active in hospice work, which she enjoyed very much, especially working with Alzheimer's patients.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries.
She resided at Breeze Park in St Charles since 2017.
Survivors include her daughters, Connie (Andrew) Alsip of Ohio, Christine (Tom) Hartshorn of New York, Rebecca (Franz) Mayer of Missouri and Beth (Kim) Gipson of Alabama; daughter-in-law, Karen (the late Carl William) Weis; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, the Rev. Carl William "Bill" Weis; son-in-law, Bill Leed; two brothers, Merle and Stanley Hilgendorf; and sister-in-law, Helen (Merle) Hilgendorf.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Russ Gipson officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
