Lois Hughes

MOREHOUSE, Mo. -- Lois Hughes, 78, of Morehouse died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at her home.

She was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Marked Tree, Ark., daughter of Edgar and Lydia Sorters Powell. She and Thomas Hughes were married in 1952 in Piggott, Ark. He died June 1, 1989.

Survivors include a son, Jim Hughes of Jackson; a brother, Floyd Hughes of Morley, Mo.; a sister, Imogene Burton of Michigan City, Ind.; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to service time Thursday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Mo.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating. Private disposition will be held at a later date.
