Lois Hooks

MATTHEWS, Mo. -- Lois Hooks, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 14, 1920, in Humphries County, Tenn., daughter of Alvin R. and Ollie Winters Curtis. She and Joe Hooks were married June 3, 1950, in Senath, Mo.

Mrs. Hooks was a retired schoolteacher from Matthews Elementary, where she taught first grade for most of her career. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Morehouse, Mo.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, David Hooks of Gordonville and Steve Hooks of Harlingen, Texas; eight brothers, Buel, Cleatus "Pete" and Gene Curtis of Matthews, Jerry Curtis of O'Fallon, Mo., J.H. Curtis of San Diego, Calif., Perry Curtis of Kingman, Ariz., Nelson Curtis of Oran, Mo.; Don Curtis of Sikeston, Mo.; two sisters, Ruby Silverthorn of Sikeston, Mo., Barbara Lasters of Oran, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
