Lois Burgett

Lois Mae Burgett, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at her home.

She was born Jan. 13, 1935, in St. Louis, daughter of Fred and Dollie Helen Short Stilley. She and George W. Burgett were married May 28, 1955, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Burgett was raised in Poplar Bluff and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1953. She worked in the school cafeteria at Belleville, Ill., North Little Rock, Ark., and Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church, where she and her husband taught special needs people for 25 years. Burgett supported her husband in his military career.

Survivors include her husband of Cape Girardeau; a son, Douglas A. Burgett of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Terri J. Stockman of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Robert A. Stilley of Temple, Texas; a sister, Carol G. Sommer of Killeen, Texas; two grandchildren, Brent W. Stockman of Washington, D.C., Brock A. Stockman of Navarre, Fla.; and a great-grandchild, Julia Stockman of Navarre.

She was preceded in death by her parents and half sister, Jean Coleman.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Pringle officiating.

Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church Mission Program.
