Loel E. "Cotton" Lowes, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at The Lutheran Home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles and Helen Norvell Lowes. He and Dorothy Brinkman were married June 1, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. They had been married 60 years.
He had owned and operated Southeast Missouri Glass Co. in Sikeston since the early 1960s, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, Sikeston Eagles, Cape Girardeau Elks, Trinity Lutheran Men's Club at Egypt Mills and was an avid fisherman.
He was a graduate of University High School and a member of its state qualifying basketball team in 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Brinkman Lowes of Cape Girardeau; a son, Joe D. Lowes and wife Earline of Benton, Mo.; a daughter, Susan Brown and husband Matt of St. Louis; a brother, L. Michael Lowes of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth Moore of Cape Girardeau, Judy Moore of Jackson; six grandchildren, Jay Lowes of Oran, Mo., Luke Lowes of Cape Girardeau, Jason Menz of Benton, Chris Brown of Louisville, Ky., Cara Menz and Lori Price of Benton; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Lowes and Mallory Lowes of Oran, Kaylyn Michael and Seth Menz of Benton, Jacob Price of Springfield, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
The funeral will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund.
