Graveside funeral service for Lloyd D. McNeely will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland with Darris McNeely officiating.
A military graveside service will be conducted by VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau.
Friends may call at the Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.
McNeely, 70, of 1721 William Street, died Monday, Sept. 30, 1991 at his home.
He was born June 27, 1921 in Advance, the son of Guy and Lura Hawkins McNeely.
On Nov. 6, 1939, he married the former Josephine McVey in Cape Girardeau. She survives.
He worked as a construction worker for Penzel Construction before his retirement.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was also a sergeant in the 149th Engineer Combat Battalion and was one of the few Cape Girardeau men to land on Normandy Beach on D-Day.
He was a member of Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838.
In addition to his wife, he is survived two sons, Robert McNeely, Cape Girardeau, Darris McNeely, Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Ann Holmes, Naples, Fla.; four brothers, George and Lewis McNeely, Jackson, Russell McNeely, Cape Girardeau, and Dean McNeely, Arnold; five sisters, Carrie Darter, Juanita Schwab and Hannah Farrow, all of Cape Girardeau, Marie Bollinger, Mountain Home, Idaho, Fern Tripp, High Ridge; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
