Lloyd Charles Whitledge

Lloyd Charles Whitledge, 73, of Jackson died Saturday, Jan.14, 2012 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 4, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Mich. to Glenn Alfred and Wilma Ruth McDowell Whitledge. Lloyd and Velma Sharrock were married June 6, 1964, at Reagan Chapel Church.

Lloyd graduated from Jackson High School in 1956. He received a bachelor of science degree in education with a major in science from Southeast Missouri State University and earned his master's degree in administration from University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Lloyd taught school for eight years -- two at Bonne Terre High School in Bonne Terre, Mo., and six at Fox High School in Arnold, Mo. He was principal at Lilbourn School in Lilbourn, Mo., for two years and at R.O. Hawkins Junior High in Jackson from 1971 to 1993.

Since his retirement, Lloyd was part owner and worked with his daughter Shari at First Class Travel in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson where he served as an usher and served on numerous boards and committees. He also was a former member of the Jackson Library Board and Jackson Park Board, and a member of the Apple Creek Presbyterian Memorial Association.

He was a former member of the Breakfast Optimist Club of Jackson.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Velma of Jackson; four daughters, Shari (Mark) Elfrink of Jackson, Kriston (Paul) Knaust of O'Fallon, Mo., Dina (Paul) Holland of Hillsboro, Mo., and Kara Whitledge of Jackson; one brother, Gary (Cassandra) Whitledge; one sister, Nancy (Donald) Schuette, both of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Levi and Faith Elfrink, Zachary, Allison, and Jared Knaust, Noah, Shaye and Kendall Holland.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. David Israel and the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Apple Creek Presbyterian Cemetery in Pocahontas.
